Kinesiology: The Most Results for the Least Amount of Effort
Monday, February 13, 2012
Former Dodger pitching great Mike Marshall was one of the people that Mike Austin respected the most. Marshall is also a doctor of Kinesiology, like Austin, and uses this science to teach young pitchers how to pitch a baseball so they don't injure themselves.

Unfortunately, Mike Marshall finished his playing days throwing with the technique that the 'professional' pitching coaches wanted, and ended up with permanent loss of range of motion at the elbow, knee replacement, and other maladies. And even though he gives his book and video away for free, pitching coaches still teach their players a higher risk technique.
Mike Austin was also a doctor of Kinesiology, and developed the most efficient way to hit a golf ball, just as Mike Marshall has preached a different way of throwing that has not yet caught on as the most popular. For most young players and coaches, the indoctrination is too deep - same as young golfers on tour or trying to get there. And so on it goes, This lecture by Dr. Marshall on Youtube, shows true expert scientist explaining how he was injured multiple times doing it the 'wrong way', and instead how we should pitch the 'right way', just as Mike Austin did with the golf swing. I hope after you finish with this video, you will be convinced that most of the people instructing golf have no clue what they are doing to your body. They may be teaching you a method that is risky over the long term
Sure, this is a very long presentation, but it shows you how an expert Kinesiologist can easily shoot down most of the fashionable techniques within a sport. These techniques often are employed by the best athletes in the sport, and encouraged by their 'expert' teachers, just like what happened with Mike Marshall. Mike won the Cy Young Award - so he was the Tiger Woods of pitching at one time - and like Tiger has the scars in his left knee to prove that his technique did not conform to the laws of physiology.
You have to be careful not to follow the latest swing fad just because many PGA Tour players use it, and the 'top' teachers advocate it.
