Are You Throwing From the Top?Monday, February 14, 2011
Here is another excellent example of releasing the clubhead from the top freely and fully. I thought I would give the lefties some love.
Notice there is no attempt to delay the uncocking of the hands or create lag. There is no attempt to keep the clubhead on a line after impact - it just circles freely and unimpeded.
It is easier than kindergarten! Just step and throw! ;-)
Here is one more example of a great release from the top combined with the Mike Austin pivot. This kid had another 18 months to work on it, so he's really polished now. Notice the freely swinging lower spine, the winding of the shoulder blades, and the compound pivot on the downswing. You can do this.
His weight is posted correctly on an extended right knee - this is a golf swing not a baseball play! Keeping the right knee flexed limits the windup and puts excessive forces on the spine! And don't forget to detach that heel! This kid would hit it over 350 if he was adult sized.
The Mike Austin swing is truly the most natural and efficient method of swinging ever conceived of. Some of us had it in the womb.
